The Company You Keep

“Tell me your company, and I will tell you what you are.”

🎤That’s some wisdom drop, Don Quixote! (Cervantes wrote that little ditty four centuries ago!)

The idea that the company we keep is a reflection of who we are, is not new.

For artists who are working hard on becoming more of who they really are, the company you keep can make or break your efforts.

It takes a massive amount of courage to take the professional risks you, First name / my friend, want to take.  Right?

So it stands to reason that we might harness all of our energy - including the important energy of those around us - to keep us on our path.

If you are in a transition, in a pivot, in an expansion of purpose —take a look at who you spend your time with.

Change is an opportunity to shake things up!

That also applies to the people who you aspire to bring into your sphere - new friends & colleagues producers, curators, grantors, collaborators.

Although it's true that networking with peers and networking “up” is something we kinda have to do if want to stimulate more opportunities 😳…  

We still have as much of a choice about who we hang out with on the regular, as those we'd like to pursue.

Are you in alignment when you make those choices?

⚡️Does who you are becoming align with who you are giving your precious, vulnerable, courageous energy to?  

⚡️Are you in community with people who honor the values you want to bring forward in order to realize your big vision?

⚡️Are you connecting to other people who support the transformation you’re trying to make?

Choosing who to gather with, to network with, to learn from or to mentor or coach you is an opportunity to grow into alignment with who you are becoming.

It’s why every one of my 1:1 clients and course participants connects through group sessions at least twice a month — for interconnection, exchange, and to generate aligned energy.

Investing in yourself is hard enough even with champions cheering you on. 📣

Imagine having no one — or worse, having the wrong someones — who are more than happy to convince you why you shouldn’t.

We have enough internal critics, thank you very much.

But put yourself in a room with women who are aligned and rocking 🎸🎸🎸their purpose — and just imagine what becomes possible!

Surround yourself with people who are aligned with your desire to grow!

That’s the work all artists, creators, change-makers, solopreneurs — anyone who wants to expand beyond their current circumstances — must do.

❤️Who are the communities and humans you want to spend your time with?

This season, outside of my coaching and learning circles, I've been meeting new people— as a participant in an artist-led peer mentorship group and a movement study group. 

Both groups use a framework to ignite the power of interconnection to stimulate transformation!
