Candy Buzz Courage

I wait all year to stuff my face with miniature SnickersšŸ« bars.

Ā

And by golly, I did it!

Ā

I spent $75 on premium minis—for the children, of course—and sat on the stoop to indulge my long-awaited sugar binge.šŸ˜‹

Ā

The next morning, deep in a candy hangover, I got invited to a screening of the new documentary America Is Burning by David Zmick.

Ā

Some might argue it’s not the best post-Halloween hangover activity—but I went anyway.

Ā

It sobered me up pretty quick.

The film gives a grim prognosis for our future as a country.

Ā

But then it also asked something of us.

Ā

When we aren’t in alignment with our values—whether because of internal doubt or external pressure—we suffer.

That suffering can turn to blame, to resentment, to hate.

Ā

When our world burns—as mine did when my husband died—there’s a window of possibility.

A time to take risks we hadn’t dared to take before.

Ā

The chaos we’re in—political, moral, environmental, economic, humanitarian—poses that same kind of opportunity.

Ā

When the world shakes around us, our own foundations crack too.

Ā

Maybe this is the moment that will finally catalyze our courage—to choose vulnerability and connection over resistance and disconnection.

Threats will persist.

But artists—artists are changemakers.

We have the capacity to wonder in the midst of crisis.

To ask: What if? šŸ¤”
