What if we Choose Wrong?

Ever faced with limitless choices and ended up doing nothing?

That’s a paradox of privilege.

We get to choose what direction we want to grow.

And yet, that very choice brings with it real psychological and emotional challenges.

I often wish someone would just tell me what to do.

When I started my business, I hired a coach and told her exactly that—Tell me what to do first. What software to use. What apps to get. What subscriptions to join.

The uncertainty around what I needed to do first triggered all of my inner saboteurs.

Namely, a belief that I am not smart enough to succeed.

Getting the help I needed to begin was a triumph.

Indecision eats away at our life force—the spark inside that knows we’re meant to create something more.

It can show up as:

  • Physical hesitation (chronic doubt has a posture—you can see it)

  • Self-sabotage (what are the three ways you derail yourself when faced with a choice you’ve been longing to make?)

  • Comparison paralysis (if only I had her education, her connections, her resources...)

I had a potential client who wrestled with committing to coaching for months because she couldn’t be 100% certain she’d succeed.

She had to face the fear that was keeping her stuck in indecision.

She did. And almost instantly, things shifted.

In just five months, she applied for and won two spots in competitive residency programs, gained membership in a coveted studio community, and found such clarity in her vision that doubt no longer dictated her choices.

That doesn’t mean doubt disappeared.

It means that she was able to finally see doubt as an invitation to look more closely.

Instead of siding with doubt, she had the courage to disentangle the resistance within, and find the clarity she needed to make a choice.

No single choice will remove uncertainty forever.

There will always be things we don’t know and can’t control.

But having the privilege of choice means learning to navigate uncertainty—tending to our fears, recognizing old patterns, and creating proof that we can make a choice, even when it feels a little risky!
