New Traditions, anyone?

If a family holiday isn't measure of our annual growth, I don't know what is. This weekend, delivered that truth in abundance.
After seven years of dating my partner, we finally hosed our first joint holiday event.
Seven years. Why do long?
Because -- up until now – I was afraid.
Afraid it would make my kids uncomfortable. Afraid I would be uncomfortable. Afraid that by putting us all around a holiday table, I'd be putting another nail in the coffin of the way things used to be when their father was alive.
But I forgot something important.
I forgot to account for the fact that my children were changing. (Approaching 18 and 21!)
At a certain point I realized that it was my fear, not theirs, that was keeping my partner and me from creating a tradition of our own.
They don't need me to protect them anymore.
And our very first gathering? So much fun! My kids were all-in in every way imaginable.
We played Cards Against Humanity (including with Grandma), and laughed ourselves sick.
My brother and son played the guitar, my partner played his cello, and we all sang songs together - it was awesome.
I am so grateful to all of us for showing up to create a new experience — One that doesn't erase the past, but includes it in the best way possible.
Change.
That is at the heart of growth, isn't it?
Let me ask you: What have you been exerting patience and effort toward this past year (or longer)? How have you grown this year? And most importantly: What does that change make possible now?
If you are an artist who feels her future calling to create at another level – I'd love to accompany you as you launch into this next-level work!
