Walk the Runway

Updated: Nov 11, 2022

Just as an airplane needs to travel a runway before it lifts off, we too need a runway to create enough energy to fly.

Too often we either expect that one big action will get us results or we get disappointed and quit when the runway feels too long or bumpy.

In my experience, the key to creating a well paved runway is to take small steps with your attention on each step, not on the destination.

When the beautiful horizon is stretched out before us, it can feel overwhelming.

Our gremlins feed on our overwhelm! They love to tel us all the reasons why we shouldn’t, can’t or won’t. They kill our momentum.

Small steps will pave your runway with small successes that will tame your gremlins and give you the proof you need along the way to gain speed!

This week one of my clients started to pave her runway.

She said yes to three (3) collaborative writing workshops. Each were very different. She liked one best.

In the one she liked best she wrote something that fired her up!

In the short piece that she wrote, she accessed her writer's voice, which surprised her.

It felt so good.

She was excited by what she wrote.

Then it occurred to her to add something else as a next small step on her runway.

So she made a commitment to do that next thing.

And then, Ah!, another connection and another next small step came to mind.

She arrived to me in the beginning with no runway.

And now she is creating momentum that feels good IN ITSELF.

That is SO important. It’s so important to feel the thrill of small step successes.

If we are busy worrying about getting to a beautiful destination somewhere OUT THERE, then we may miss important information and emotions that are HERE right now.

We need to BE PRESENT FOR EACH STEP IN ORDER TO GENERATE THE ENERGY WE NEED TO TAKE THE NEXT ONE, AND THE ONE AFTER THAT.
